4 Ways to SAVE MONEY in your Zero Waste Kitchen

Have you ever worried about going broke, while going zero waste? That’s okay. We’ve all been there. But the truth is, there’s MULTIPLE ways to save money while going zero waste, some of the ways include not spending any money AT ALL.

I wanna break down for you 4 ways you can save HUNDREDS of dollars while going zero waste.

DO NOT BUY:

  1. PAPER TOWELS - all those trips to the store to restock & subscription deliveries for a product you use once & throw away? NO WAY. The average family of 4 spends $70-$100 a year on paper towels. Doesn’t seem like a lot, but over the years it adds up. Not to mentioned the amount of unnecessary waste they produce. And don’t even look at how they are made because that will blow your mind. The best thing that you can do instead of buying paper towels is to go to the thrift store & find a bunch of dish rags for a cheap price & use those instead. Use, wash, repeat. Essentially free to use over the span of your lifetime. REUSABLE PAPER TOWELS: https://loveofearthco.com/products/reusable-paper-towels?_pos=1&_sid=f331b28dc&_ss=r
  2. Around 11% of Americans use paper plates & plastic utensils at mealtimes & 54% use them at least once a day. That leads to 219.73 Americans using single use dishware throughout the year on a consistent basis. Obviously the more earth conscious alternative is to invest in ceramic, wood, or stone dishware that can be washed & reused infinitely. Not only will this save you money, but it will reduce the amount of waste you send off to the landfill. And if you’re looking to reduce the amount of plastic utensils you sent off to the landfill while out of the house check out our BAMBOO UTENSIL KIT: https://loveofearthco.com/products/bamboo-utensils-set?_pos=1&_sid=7d642c91f&_ss=r
  3. PLASTIC CLEANING PRODUCTS: I believe this is one of the easier swaps to get into. Due to the fact that 80 to 90% of plastic bottled liquid cleaners, are water, I cannot justify why anyone would want to buy them. Not only do they come packaged in plastic that is often times not recyclable due to the chemicals inside, they are mostly water and heavily diluted, & in an age where more and more people are aware of the toxic ingredients inside of most household cleaners, the sustainable option just makes far more sense. I curiously went over to target the other day to see how much they were charging for a bottle of liquid Windex. & for 26 oz they charged $4.99. In my shop you can get 2 WINDOW CLEANING TABLETS: https://loveofearthco.com/products/multi-surface-cleaning-tablets?_pos=1&_sid=2a1389d36&_ss=rFOR $2 a piece that will yield you 32oz of glass cleaner w/o to toxic ingredients. Oh, & of course they come in compostable packaging so they leave “no trace”
  4. PLASTIC TRASH BAGS: Now this one might get me in trouble. I haven’t bought trash bags in over 4.5 years. Why? Because I believe putting plastic inside of another plastic bag so it’s easier to take your plastic to the trash bin all in the name of convenience is a bit ridiculous. & quite honestly, just another slick way for the plastic industry to convince you to buy more single waste plastic. The average family of 4 spends $50-$75 on trash bags every year. Now, since I live a pretty zero waste lifestyle, I don’t have much to throw away. Which I believe should be the goal for most people. But if you’re on the process of transitioning to a plastic & waste free life, then just “raw dog it” don’t use trash bags. Place whatever trash you have directly into your trash bin & take it out when full by dumping trash directly into the bin. OR if you really wanna challenge yourself, put whatever trash you create into the bin outside by walking out each piece you collect, every time you collect. We do this in my home & call it our “punishment trash walk” but it’s all in good fun & motivating for us to try our best to reduce the amount of trash we create. If you INSIST on using a trash bag, look into the compostable options available by: BIOBAG: https://www.biobagworld.com/intl_en/

POTENTIAL YEARLY SAVINGS FROM DOING THESE 4 THINGS: approximately $200 for a family of 1-2
