HOW TO RECYCLE EMPTY PILL BOTTLES♻️

If I had a “second most asked question” trophy for my social media pages, this question would win. “what do I do with my empty prescription bottles?” I’ve gotten asked this close to 1,000 times. & while I don’t usually have prescription meds given to me, I have learned over the years there’s a TON of companies, non profits & pharmacies that take empty pill bottles. & here they are:

BUSINESS THAT UPCYCLE THEM:

COCOPLUM - recycled empty pill bottles & turns them into sunglasses! It’s a fun process to watch & I love watching her videos. Here’s her Instagram if you wanna check her out! https://www.instagram.com/cocoplumsunglasses?igsh=OGl3eGZ5cTd6ZHcx

MATTHEW 25: MINISTRIES - this nonprofit accepts clean, empty, recapped pill bottles (prescription or over-the-counter) for inclusion in medical shipments to developing countries. Only caveat is, the bottle must be sent with the cap, pre cleaned & de labeled.

RIDWELL- is a service that collects hard to recycle materials in certain areas of the U.S. Their “Empty prescription pill bottles” category accepts #5 plastic prescription bottles (without medication inside of course). They partner with recyclers such as Merlin Plastics who shred, wash, pelletize the plastic, & have it remade into new industrial or commercial products.

Cabinet Health- I’ve actually spoken with the higher ups at Cabinet Health & they are on an amazing mission to make the medical field less trashy. They host trash pick ups at the beach & are truly making a huge difference with medical waste. You can simply participate in their pill bottle recycling program by going to their website & getting a shipping label. As long as you follow their rules, you’re good to go!

SHIP N SHRED- this company is more handy if you have A LOT of pill bottles you collect over the year. They prefer bottles be shipped in higher quantities. You can go to their website for more info on how to ship. Will cost you some money for shipping but a good option for those who have a solid amount of bottles they wanna get rid of
