MY GUIDE TO SUSTAINABLE FASHION

Today I wanna share with you my guide to sustainable fashion. The obvious & best choice for transitioning your closet to a more sustainable one is to thrift a majority of your clothes. Now, if you’re anything like me & live in a small town with not great thrifting options; I see you & I hear you. I will provide below online thrift stores that I love & have purchased from to help combat this. Next best option is to do friends & family clothing swaps, but I also understand this option can have some challenges as well.

You might have run across a couple of sustainable fashion brands in the past & thought “wow. This is pricey.” & you’re not wrong. There’s many things that contribute to a higher price point with sustainable brands. One being that they don’t use slave labor (as fast fashion does) & with minimum wages constantly on the rise, that forces these ethical brands to set their clothes at a higher price point to afford the better materials, warehouse, manufacturing, & worker wages. So keep that in mind. Also, try to keep in mind that the BEST thing you can do is wait for sales. Sales like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Earth Day sales are the only times of the year I will buy from sustainable brands to get a good discount & stock up on whatever I need.

Here are some of my favorite sustainable clothing brands (all of which I have purchased from)

  1. MATE THE LABEL - $$$ definitely has a higher price point but the highest quality of sustainable AND non toxic clothing I’ve found. They’ve got: basic, active wear & lounge wear. Only down side is they do style drops & hardly ever repeat styles so keep an eye out on their social medias for new drops. I’ve been purchasing from them for over 3 years now & they have a solid returns policy & the stuff I keep, I LOVE & wear MULTIPLE times over getting my moneys worth
  2. PACT - $ on the lower price point side. Not a fan of everything they come out with but my style is very chill. Everything is well made & ethically made. If you’re in a budget these guys are your go to
  3. QUINCE - $ LOVE QUINCE. I mostly use them for my bedding. But they have it all, clothes, shoes, jewelry, towels, bedding, men’s, etc. VERY fairly priced & high quality stuff. They also have good maternity clothing. Only downside is you might randomly get some plastic in your package & they don’t distinguish if it’s compostable plastic they’re using.
  4. WHIMSY & ROW - $$$ higher price point but Whimsy & Row is your go to for more formal & dress attire. They are based out of Los Angeles & everything is made in LA by hand. If you’re ever in the Venice Beach area check out their store it’s AWESOME. Date night, graduation, formal events, maternity photoshoots, all things girly & dress up you can find HERE.
  5. INDUSTRY OF ALL NATIONS - $$ this is my husbands favorite sustainable fashion brand. I actually don’t own anything from them but do vouch that they have VERY high quality stuff & an awesome brand story. They source all of their fabrics & coloring from their clothing in that part of the world where they are native. They also employ the local people of that indigenous land to make the clothing then send it here to the USA to be sold. So they put a lot into communities all around the world & are one of the most transparent clothing brands you’ll ever run across hands down. They have loungewear & outerwear mostly with some sprinkles of accessories like underwear, beanies, socks, & wallets. My husband loves their sweat suits & baby clothes. They have physical stores all across the USA if you’re ever in Los Angeles, San Francisco, NYC, New York, Brooklyn NY, & Joshua Tree check them out in person!
  6. REFORMATION - $$ they have got all the fun going out clothes to the work attire. Definitely makes sustainable fashion a lot more fun. Many times people complain about the boring patterns and plain vibe of sustainable fashion brands, but reformation is not that. They’ve got patterns, styles and vibes for days! Although I’ve never actually bought anything from reformation, I’ve been in their stores and I’ve tried their clothes on, and they are very high-quality and fun. I never need anything because I really don’t go anywhere but if you’re somebody, that’s always on the go and has tons of events to go to throughout the year definitely give Reformation a try. They up cycle, leftover fabrics from larger companies and clothing brands and make their own clothing out of them so that nothing goes to waste. It’s more of a closed circle brand then it is purely sustainable fashion, so you will find less sustainable fabrics being used, but you can know that you saved these fabrics from ending up in a landfill. They also have numerous physical stores all around the US! I went to their store in Austin TX & was BLOWN AWAY.
