Hello jewelry lovers! Have you been personally victimized by big box stores selling you cheap, ugly & easily broken jewelry? Whether it be earrings, necklaces, bracelets or rings we’ve all been in that financial pinch where a $3 thumb ring looked good enough for our New Years Eve party- & by Jan. 2nd, our thumb was green. 

Not only is cheap jewelry bad for our health, it’s bad for our wallets & the planet. Mass produced cheap metals take an exuberant amount of water & energy to produce & since a majority of it is made in China we exhaust our transportation resources to transporting cheaply made junk that will break by spring. Etsy is one of the largest online marketplaces for vintage & second hand jewelry. It offers access to thousands of independent sellers from around the world many of whom specialize in true antique pieces from the Georgian Victorian Edwardian & Art Deco eras. Best for eclectic vintage styles handmade restoration pieces accessible price ranges. But BEWARE! there are some sellers who sell cheaply made copy cats & dupes. So always read the description sections & talk to your seller before purchase

Ruby Lane is widely known as one of the most reputable online destinations for antique & estate jewelry. Every shop owner is vetted & listings tend to include detailed descriptions historical context & professional photography (which I LOVE). a little more pricey, but you know it’s worth it & the pieces will last a lifetime. because they already have lasted someone else their lifetime! 

3. THE REAL REAL

Although I’ve never bought from the REAL REAL, my good friend buys pretty much everything she owns from them. They have designer clothes, decor & jewelry. All name brand, all second hand, everything is the highest of quality you won’t even know it’s been pre owned!

4. LANG ANTIQUES 

Based in San Francisco they specialize in museum quality antique & estate jewelry with an educational approach that tells you the deep history of each piece you’re interested in.Their website includes extensive historical explanations of each era which is SO FUN! This is a destination for those who value provenance craftsmanship & authenticity. You can even find solid vintage engagement & wedding rings on there, if you’re into that
