Happy (late) Valentines Day! For all of you who excitedly received roses (or begrudgingly received them), we all now have a responsibility to not let our flowers go to waste! So many resources go into growing roses & the other various flowers to be sold on this holiday- so its best we dont let our roses go to waste! (video instructions)
What you'll need:
- 6-12 roses (any color)
- baking soda
- 2 cups of white distilled vinegar
- distilled water
- 16oz glass jar + the lid
- essential oils optional
- glass spray bottle
- Castile soap optional
- vodka (optional)
Instructions:
- take 6-12 rose petals & soak them in a bath with just warm water & baking soda (2-3 tbsps will do)
- let that sit for 10-15 occasionally stirring to remove pesticides
- drain the water/baking soda mix from the petals & rinse them thoroughly in just water to remove all baking soda
- place rose petals in 16oz glass jar (should fill the entire jar) & add 2 cups vinegar (can be substituted for vodka if opting out of vinegar). vinegar should fill the jar to the top. if you dont like the smell of vinegar you can use cheap unflavored vodka
- screw lid of the glass jar on tightly & place the mix in a warm place that receives plenty of sunlight for 2-3 weeks. this will allow the scent of the roses to fully absorb into the vinegar & create a nice floral tone
- after 2-3 weeks you can transfer just the liquid of the mix into a glass spray bottle. mix should be a deep red-ish burgundy color. no need to refrigerate this mix. it will be good for 6-8 months if stored in a cool dry place (under the sink preferably)
- optional feel free to add your choice of essential oils (15-20 drops is a good amount) orange OR eucalyptus tends to be a favorite combo
What can i clean with this mix?
- kitchen
- toilets
- bathroom
- countertops
- tables
- floors
