Are you here to see if you “Greenwashed or NOT” correctly? Well you’re in the right place!
Greenwash: a companies attempt to mislead or deceive the public by presenting a product as being environmentally friendly
HERE ARE THE ANSWERS:
ECO TOOLS BODY SPONGE: Greenwashed? (YES!) & how could you tell? Well because if you look closely at the packaging it says “made with recycled materials” but does designate what percentage of the product is made from recycled materials, which is the issue. According to the greenwashing definition, in order for something to be greenwashed it has to have vague descriptive words that would appeal to the eco crowd, but doesn’t go into detail about how much of the product is friendly to the planet. If it said “made from 100% recycled materials” AND came in plastic free packaging it would not be greenwashed. But unfortunately due to the vague language, it is greenwashed. When in doubt, don’t buy it. Plus there’s better options for example our Konjac Body Sponges which are made with 100% Japanese sea cellulose & are 100% compostable.
FLOSS PICKS: Greenwashed? (YES!) I feel like this one was easy to detect. But according to the greenwashing definition “is an eco friendly product comes in plastic, it’s not eco friendly.” So that is the dead give away & something to note when you’re out zero waste shopping. Better option: our Compostable Floss
SCRUB DADDY COCOMESH SCRUBBER: Greenwashed? (NO!) these are oddly, safe? I would have NEVER imagined this day would come. Since Scrub Daddy is notoriously a plastic sponge company, I never thought they’d do this! But they have 1 completely zero waste option which is there COCOMESH SCRUBBER made from 100% coconut fibers making it compostable. Awesome! Now if you choose not to support Scrub Daddy because theyre not completely a Zero Waste company then check out our Eco Sponge Box!
STASHER BAGS: Greenwashed? (NO!) I back BPA reusable silicone products 100%! Although silicone can be considered a plastic it DOES NOT leech microplastics (WIN!) & they hold up well over the years & don’t constrain plastic packaging. 100% zero waste product!
DISHWAND REFILLS: Greenwashed? (YES!) this is a mess… I HATE when companies do this. If you look closely at the packaging, it says made with 50% recycled materials, what’s the point? LOL. & then they place it in a PLASTIC BAG. Yikes. Then they have the nerve to call themselves “Greener Clean” which is deceptive AT BEST! Greener? Sure. Maybe. but greener compared to what exactly? Because if you compare it to our 100% compostable wood based Wood Scrub Brushes, they’re not “greener” at all!
100% ORGANIC COTTON TAMPONS: Greenwashed? (YES!) Plastic casing over the tampons, individually plastic wrapped, AND packaged all together in plastic. So they package their plastic in plastic then put it in a huge plastic case. CRAZY. But if you’re new to this & look at it quickly it has that sort of “all natural” vibe that gets a lot of unassuming aspiring zero wasters. The better option? Menstrual cups, period panties, flex cup, reusable pads. All certified zero wasters options that contain ZERO plastic.
EVERSPRING CLEANING SPRAY: Greenwashed? (YES!) this entire brand is a monstrosity. Although they make STRIDES to be more sustainable, they are not. They claim to use bio based ingredients, recycled packaging, & avoid harmful chemicals, but don’t clarify HOW/WHAT IT IS that they’re doing. & their products are always packaged in single use plastic bottles. Which is disappointing at best. The concentrated cleaning tablets in our shop are 100% better & more affordable than this option.
EVERSPRING TOILET PAPER: Greenwashed? (YES!) Another greenwashed EverSpring product where they don’t explain how much of their products is made from recycled materials AND packaged in plastic.
How did you do!?
