HOW TO MAKE ORGANIC FRUIT & VEGGIE WASH
by Kennedy Hammond on May 01, 2025

The USDA claims that simply rinsing your fruits & veggies with water is NOT ENOUGH. Even your organic fruits & veggies can be laden with pesticide, bugs, fertilizers, & chemicals that won’t simply come off with a quick cold water rinse. Respectable. You can always buy an organic fruit & veggie wash at pretty much any grocery store, but why? When you can just make your own from simple ingredients you probably already have at home!
Here is my recipe:
1 cup white vinegar
1/2 lemon juice freshly squeezed
Vinegar= can kill up to 98% of bacteria on the surface on your fruit
Lemon Juice= utilizing its acidity to dissolve wax coatings, remove pesticide residues, & reduce bacteria & pathogens
I usually use this for anywhere from 16-32oz of fruit but add more lemon if the batch is VERY visibly dirty.
1.) do a cold water rinse to get off initial dirt & debris
2.) add vinegar to bowl with cold water (which should completely submerge the fruit) & use your hands to gentle wash & scrub each fruit piece
3.) pour out water & repeat step 2 this time adding lemon juice before the wash & scrub step
4.) rinse out fruits & dry gently with kitchen towel
5.) place gently in glass jar OR glass container with a small tea towel or cellulose towel & seal lid on tightly
